On Thursday, November 6, Wagner's auditorium rang with the voices of all four sections of the school choir -- Bel Canto, Serenade, Women's Select, and Chamber Singers-- in an unmissable concert.
Vocalists and director Antoine Harris put on a show for a crowd that just about filled every seat in the auditorium. First up to the stage was the Bel Canto choir with "Whistle, Daughter, Whistle" and "Hine Ma Tov." Concentration showing in their faces, this first-year choir poured themselves into their performance, truly proving themselves as performance artists in the making.
Serenade choir presented "Cajun Folk Song" and "Set Me As A Seal Upon Your Heart," the former upbeat and fun, while the serenade-like latter tugged at listeners' emotions.
The Women's Select Choir is just that -- a selection of highly competitive women focused on furthering their skills. Soloists Genesis Rodriguez, Crystal Brosch, and Sarah Garcia adorned the choir's debut with songs "Exaudi! Laudate!", "Pie Jesu," "Aure Volanti," and "Praise His Holy Name." The Women's Select also boasts three Region XII Choir inductees: Mariah Trevino, Sarah Garcia, and Taylor Martin.
And last, but, if you don't mind a cliche, certainly not least, came the Chamber Singers. A mixture of both male and female vocalists, including Region XII Choir inductees Otoniel Rodriguez and Mariah Trevino, they made "Bonse Aba," "Sanctus," "Justorum Anime," and "Set Down Servant" resonate. As with Women's Select choir, these young men and women were hand picked to join this group. Voices ranging from deep bass to high soprano with alto filling out the chords melded together to form a harmony that could only be brought about by extensive practice and dedication to their art.
This concert was filled with amazing voices and accompaniment by pianist Marci Jenson, and proved to be an evening well spent.
