Three T-Birds placed second and third in the SAISD novice tournament, competing against 6 different schools, on Oct. 30.
Junior Roy Fernandez earned the second place title. As a first-year golfer, Fernandez had one goal for the tournament: "Swing improvement. Not swinging like you're digging for gold!"
Earning one out of the two third place titles, freshman Summer Raspberry also had goals set for her first year. "Before, I never knew anything. Now I know what to do," Raspberry said.
While starting off in a new sport as a freshman can be intimidating for some, Raspberry said, she's not intimidated by her older teammates. "The only thing scary about them is their humor," she said.
Second-year golfer and junior Adrian Huerta claimed the second third-place spot. "I've been working on my driving," Huerta said. "It's been getting better every day since school started."
Huerta was pleased with the tournament results. "I am proud of earning medals," he said.
Proud coach Ernest Files sees only good things for the future of the golf team. "These kids improve every time we go out," Files said. "I'm expecting a lot out of these kids."
The golf team will compete in a second SAISD novice tournament Nov. 20.
