Classic literature like Jane Austen doesn’t exactly attract many teen readers form this generation. Although reading a book that involves a faster pace and sequels is what many teens are looking for, they fail to see the refreshing and heartfelt story that is found in classics such as Pride and Prejudice.
Pride and Prejudice is about Elizabeth Bennett and marriage in 1800s England. The story is filled with witty characters and enough drama masked in the forms of a charming soldier, a melodramatic mother, and three restless younger sisters.
Pride and Prejudice is a refreshing and clean love story, showing the value of giving people a second chance and seeing them in a new light. Lately with the books available to you they invade with stories and romance books that are filled with physical contact and, other things that you shouldn’t waste your time reading about. It gives you a stunning love story without all of that.
Between classes, extracurricular, and after school activities that take up so much time and can move at such a fast pace, sometimes it’s just good to slow down and relax for a bit. And a slower pace allows you to see things you might have missed before, you get to stop and smell the flowers, or in this case, paper.
It’s not always the most entertaining story to keep up with at some points in the book, but after you finish it, it’s like parting with an old friend. Mostly it’s because of the knowledge that there isn’t a sequel written by Jane Austen herself. For the book to be as famous as it is and to be so well known, even to those who have never read it before, there has to be a reason. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it can’t be intriguing and a good read.
