The excitement was high this year before choir’s annual pop show. This year, not only did choir members sing well-known radio hits, but every number included a dance routine.
“The pop show was phenomenal this year,” sophomore Angelica Vasquez said. “I was a little nervous just because it was my first time ever.”
Before this show, each class had to learn three dance routines. For lazy, inactive teens (such as myself), building endurance so we would be able to dance and sing at the same time was the hardest part.
Anyone could imagine being nervous backstage before a show, but having people cheering you on makes it easier.“It’s fun and games backstage until your performance is next,” Vasquez said.
Still, after other choir students lift your spirits, performing is a piece of cake -- even if you do almost fall while dancing on stage.
Women's Select opened the show with the ever-so-upbeat “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. It included a little surprise solo.
“My small solo in ‘Shake it Off’ was a little heart racing because I have never been in front of people singing, let alone dancing, but like T. Swift says I just had to ‘shake it,’” Vasquez said. “And after singing with my class I gained more confidence and just embraced my awkwardness.”
To close out the show every class period performed a crowd favorite,’Uptown Funk’.
“My favorite part of the show was the group number,” sophomore Heaven Patino says, “It showed how much fun choir really is and how they've become one big happy family.”
