In the month of February, elective fairs were hosted at Wagner High School, Kirby Middle School and Metzger Middle School. These elective fairs provided new opportunities for middle schoolers and high schoolers.
The fairs showcased electives such as theater, orchestra, art, band, fashion, culinary, and engineering, among many others. The goal was to get young students excited about the electives they can choose from at the higher levels. Eighth graders from all middle school got the opportunity to choose their new electives.
Sophomore Renee Ramirez was at the elective fair. "I never knew how many electives opportunities there were," Ramirez said. "It was kind of interesting to see."
For teachers, like orchestra director Katherine Reiner, these elective fairs are vital. "I'm trying to build a program here for orchestra, one that can be competitive with other bigger schools," Reiner said. "This way I get to reach out to new students and get them excited about orchestra and music before they even get to high school. It's a great opportunity!"
