Wagner High School is putting on their second annual thrift store. The Thunderbird Thrift is a two week event that the fashion department puts on to raise money.
The store works by several students bringing in lightly used clothes and receiving up to $10 of store credit in return. Although fashion department head, Laura Rohm, is looking to open the store during 4th period classes, the store is only open to shoppers before and after school. The fashion students all rotate turns managing the store in mornings and afternoons.
Rohm uses the store as a project for her students to teach them supply and demand. "When I was in high school I hated paperwork, so the thrift store was a good way for (the students) to learn in a more hands on way," Rohm said.
The profits from the store go towards retail management certifications for the students, which are $350 each. All of the leftover profits with go towards buses for field trips and supplies for the upcoming year.
After the thrift store closes each year, Rohm gives out surveys to different students to see how they can improve the store for the next year.
