Want to learn more about the things that you are curious about? then how about joining a University Interscholastic League (UIL) team or four? Well, that’s what sophomore Bryson Clark did.
As if grades, new schedules, and regular school assignments weren’t enough, Clark has four more things to add to that: journalism, literary criticism, computer science, and mathematics UIL teams, with a UIL meet coming up on Friday, January 30th. And because he has to balance out school and UIL, Clark spends his time after school working on UIL work. “Most of it is after school, and plus I have a lot of time at home anyway,” Clark said.
It all started on the first day of school, when he saw a sign on the journalism classroom door advertising journalism UIL. From there, it snowballed until he was on a total of four UIL teams. At first he was nervous, but that didn’t quell the excitement.
Clark has a lot of responsibility to his school work and his classes and all of his teams. But he is able to manage his time and work so that it has no negative effect on his grades, while doing some of the things that he likes to do.
“Normally, when you hear that a student is doing that many events, you just cringe, because you know they'll never be able to pull it off. Something will have to give,” journalism UIL sponsor Kyla Mora said. “But this is Bryson we’re talking about. So not only is he doing all of this, and keeping up A’s in his classes, but he makes it look easy. If you don’t know him, that’s probably astonishing. But for those of us who do know him – well, that’s just Bryson.”
And it all started with a pink UIL flyer taped to the journalism door.
