BY STAFF When she enrolled in Introduction to Journalism, freshman Jessica Brown knew she might have a couple of challenges to face. "I'm really shy, so talking to people is kind of hard for me," Brown said. "Doing journalism has made me have to work on that and get comfortable talking to people." Interview skills can be a challenge for any reporter, but so far Brown seems to be learning fast. This week, Brown's feature story "Typical EOC Test? No. Innovative? Yes." was published in the Winter 2014 Judson Journal, Judson ISD's electronic quarterly publication. "Jessica has shown some real promise as a writer, particularly the fact that she is so hard working," journalism adviser Kyla Mora said. "She will work on a story for as long as it takes to get it right. And she's very conscientious about her deadlines. So when this story came up that I knew was kind of a big feature, I took her along with me to do the interview and then gave her the story assignment. I pitched the story to Judson Journal, and they were excited to read it, which is what every teacher wants to hear. We got to get some Wagner students some much-deserved publicity for their great Biology EOC work, and Wagner student writing got to represent to the district." |
